They’ve lost 10 of their last 14 games and have fallen into a tie for first place.
Watching this team is like watching an excruciatingly awkward episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm”. It feels like the merciful thing to do would be for the Mets to forfeit the rest of the season and just go home. Merciful for the fans, and for the team.
Dammit.
An update on my post about the MTV Video Music Awards. Apparently someone at MTV knows what they’re doing and posted the whole Foo Fighters set online. So I went to go watch the whole “Holiday In Cambodia” performance and enjoyed it thoroughly. That said, I did notice a certain bit of irony in the banner ad that randomly came up on the top of the page. Click image for screenshot:

Also of note is this review of the performance from Pitchfork. My favorite line:
“Odds are, many U.S. Americans who watched the MTV VMAs last night don’t have any idea what Cambodia is, let alone who Pol Pot was, let alone who Dead Kennedys were.”

I’m slowly becoming a fan of the new M.I.A. album Kala. The song “20 Dollar” has a cute Pixies reference in it. The standout for me so far though is “Paper Planes”. It has this cool hypnotic sample from the intro of The Clash’s “Straight To Hell”.

Two contrarian thoughts about the Van Halen reunion:
1) Sammy Hagar was better than David Lee Roth.
2) While having Eddie hire his 16 year-old son as the touring bass player is a cute idea, I’m not convinced it’s a good one.
I haven’t seen more than 3 minutes of an MTV Video Music Awards in about 6 years, but I happened upon it earlier tonight, briefly. They had the Foo Fighters set up in a hotel suite playing for a couple dozen people. They had the lead singer of System Of A Down singing with them, and they were performing the Dead Kennedys’ “Holiday In Cambodia”
Cool, I thought. And they were doing a pretty good version of it. Halfway through the first verse, I started to feel this apprehension that they wouldn’t let the band finish the song. Like clockwork, a voiceover started describing all of the stuff that was coming up next on the show. Then, unbelievably, they cut to commercial right at the start of the first chorus. Punk songs are short, you don’t need to truncate them!
Holiday In Cambodia is a classic song too. It was harsh.
Ever since Windows 95, when you install windows you are asked to name your computer. The names of my self-built computers have included Omicron, Scion and Scoptione. My new computer is named after a small town in Bulgaria. The town is called Dragoman and it looks like this:
