Best. Box Score. Ever.
Last night I began a stretch that will have me attending 3 baseball games in one week. The game my friend Scott and I saw at Shea last night between the Mets and Padres was fairly unremarkable, particularly because the Mets lost. Jose Reyes provided some good highlights though. He struck out on a wild pitch and made it to first. He then proceeded to steal second and then third. A stolen base later in the game set a new Mets team record, which is pretty amazing considering that it is still only August.
But the place to be last night was in Baltimore. The visiting Texas Rangers, in the first game of a doubleheader(!) beat the Orioles 30-3. No team has scored that many runs in 110 years. The all-time record was set in 1897, but in 1897 foul balls did not count as strikes. So last night the Rangers set the “modern era” record.
The box score is here. It is simply amazing. The 7-8-9 hitters combined for 16 RBIs. Baltimore’s team ERA for the season went from 4.39 to 4.60 by virtue of just this one game. In August. Wow.
