Deep Fried Oreos

Yesterday I led another long walk from the top of Manhattan to the bottom. On the Upper West Side there was a street fair. One booth was selling Deep Fried Oreos. I just had to try one. Wouldn’t you be just a little bit curious?

They were great. Inside the deep-fried batter, the Oreo turns into gooey mush. Yet to some extent it retains its texture. Kinda like how it behaves in cookies n’ cream ice cream (which is my favorite flavor). It was yummy.

They were 4/$3.00, but i’m glad I gave two away. As tasty as they were, I think if I had eaten all 4 I would have thrown up.

Eating them also felt vaguely decadent. I remember telling someone it made me feel oddly patriotic. Who else would do this with food? American excess is often off-putting, except, for me, when it is so decadent I can’t help but smile and enjoy the absurdity.

Have you ever thought of building an audio cassette from scratch? Well you’ll be well on your way once you pick up my bag of over 300 audio cassette reels.

You can use these as gears or even fishing lures. There are so many different ways to use little plastic wheels that I can barely control my urge to list all of them. Father’s Day is coming up sooner than you think.

Drop me a line if you’d like to pick them up. Oh, you’ll be so happy.

Spatula Of Death sweeps a nation

There are now over 350 users on the Spatula Of Death. People seemed to enjoy it at the ITP Spring show. I built an installation around the project meant to resemble a festively decorated cubicle. I had Tom Waits music playing on some small speakers, with the treble turned all the way down, bass turned all the way up and the subwoofer turned up. I replaced the toy monkey with a rotisserie chicken, just for the two days of the show. It was fun.

I think the projects at the show this time were particularly great.
